Swimming by Alexindra

Swimming, it’s brought me my life! I had heard about it from my friend Alexia, going home from a play. I did not make the qualifications for tryouts, so I did an extra week with the head coach and other people who also did not make it. When, I first started swim team I decided to go in the lane where my friends were which was about in the front of the 1st lane out of the 3 lanes for my group which got harder as they went down, my group had lanes 8-6 out of the 8 lanes in the pool. I was at the front but, I was still being pushed by my coaches. I made swim friends really fast and I got so close because we talked at practice for a short time at the edge and at meets for hours! I improved really fast because I went on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, I worked so hard I moved to the next lane with my close friends, still I was working hard! I could not believe how much I liked it! I also loved having such close friends! I went to most of the meets and by the end of the year I was super, so close to my friends on the team and I was very good at swimming! Then, at the end of the year celebration, I went there and they gave me a trophy for doing the season. After, they started the coaches awards, where coaches pick ONE swimmer from the team who they think worked hard or admire. As I was listening, I heard one that sounded like me because they said, “The individual I chose began with me in September and showed such fast progress and confidence in her abilities she moved herself to the next lane, where the kids where a little more advanced. She earned this move and took it upon herself to make the transition. She transitioned well. From what I understand she made a whimsical, last minute decision to try out for swim team. Her instincts were good. I understand from her mom and I am convinced that this first year experience was life-changing for her. She was enthusiastic, came to almost every practice, and continued to improve as a result. Her confidence in herself and swimming blossomed.” So I knew that maybe, just maybe that would be me, as I listened more they said my name! I was so surprised and happy at the same time! When, I went up to get my award I said, “thank you” to my coach who had given me the award. I loved swim team and wanted to do it next year!
